Ellenton Florida – FHP reported a teenage motorcyclist was struck and by an alleged drunk driver in Ellenton killed Sunday night.

The DUI crash took place as a 17 year old boy from Parrish FL was riding a motorcycle eastbound in the right lane of US 301 approaching the intersection with 42nd Avenue East.

At the same time a 53 year old man from Ellenton was driving a Jeep Sport Utility westbound on US 301 approaching the intersection with 42nd Avenue East from the opposite side as the oncoming motorcyclist, in the left turn lane.

At 8:01:00 PM the driver of the Jeep attempted to make a left turn from 301 onto 42nd Avenue East and drove directly into the path of the oncoming motorcyclist cutting him off.

The front of the motorcycle collided with the right side of the Jeep, and the force of the impact threw the rider from the vehicle onto the roadway where he came to a rest in the intersection of 42nd Avenue East.

After crashing into the motorcycle, the Jeep ran off the road and finally came to a stop in a the ditch west of 42nd Avenue East.

The motorcyclists was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash by first responders.

The driver of the Jeep was taken to the Manatee County Jail after being charged with DUI manslaughter.

FHP has stated the crash remains under investigation.
