MANATEE COUNTY – FHP has announced that a three-vehicle crash in Palmetto has resulted in multiple people with serious injuries Thursday afternoon.
The car accident happened as an 18-year-old woman from Bradenton was driving a sedan southbound on US 41 in the vicinity of 35th St W.
At 2:30 in the afternoon for reasons not stated in the report, she crossed over the grass median and drove into the northbound side of traffic.
After entering the northbound lanes of US 41, the woman crashed head-on into a Hyundai Sorrento sport utility vehicle driven by a 36-year-old woman from Sarasota with a young passenger.
The head-on impact caused the SUV to rotate and crash into a third vehicle, a Cadillac sedan driven by a 34-year-old woman from Palmetto.
The young passenger in the Hyundai SUV was critically injured in the crash and taken to All Children’s Hospital in St. Petersburg for emergency treatment.
The 36-year-old woman who was driving the SUV was seriously injured in the accident, and taken to Blake Hospital in Bradenton.
The driver of the Cadillac sedan was in serious condition after the crash.
The 18-year-old driver of the sedan who crossed the median and caused the crash was also seriously hurt in the accident.
