MYAKKA CITY – Florida Highway Patrol reported a woman has died and a man is in serious condition after a head-on crash on State Road 70 in Myakka City Friday evening.

The car accident took place as a 79-year-old woman from Jackson Mississippi was driving a car eastbound on SR 70 east of the intersection with Mobley Pond Lane.

At the same time, a 38-year-old man from Parrish Florida was driving a pickup truck heading west on SR 70, rapidly approaching the oncoming car in the opposite lane.

At 7:11:00 PM for reasons unknown, the sedan crossed over the center line and drifted directly into the path of the oncoming pickup truck.

The car and pickup collided head-on, and both the car and the pickup truck came to a stop in the immediate area of the crash.

The woman from Jackson Mississippi died as a result of the accident.

The Man from Palmetto was seriously injured in the head-on crash. FHP officials have stated that both drivers were wearing seat belts during the accident and that the accident is still under investigation.
