BRADENTON – Florida Highway Patrol reported one person was hospitalized in serious condition after being struck by a Sport Utility Vehicle Saturday afternoon.

The accident happened as a 67-year-old man from Palmetto was walking on 26th Street West attempting to cross the street, walking toward the east side from 45th Avenue West just south of Cortez Rd.

As the man was crossing the road, a 20-year-old woman from Bradenton was driving a sport utility vehicle southbound on 26th Street West approaching the intersection with 45th Avenue West.

At 4:40PM, the SUV encountered the pedestrian and the right front of the vehicle collided with the man crossing the road.

The vehicle came to a stop after the crash and the man was taken to Blake Medical Center for treatment in serious condition.

FHP has stated that the crash remains under investigation.
