SARASOTA – Two people were injured after their vehicle was struck on the side by a reckless hit-and-run driver.

The crash took place as a 19-year-old man from Sarasota was driving a Sport Utility Vehicle with an 18-year-old woman from Sarasota westbound on Bee Ridge Road near the Interstate 75 exit ramp.

As the SUV was lawfully driving, an 18-year-old man from Sarasota was driving an SUV on southbound I-75 in what was described as a reckless manner.

The reckless driver exited I-75 onto the westbound exit ramp to Bee Ridge Road as the lawfully driven vehicle was in the immediate area.

At 7:37:00 PM, the reckless driver entered traffic on Bee Ridge Road and momentarily lost control of his SUV, traveling over a curb, before swerving back onto Bee Ridge Road. After re-entering Bee Ridge, the SUV crashed into the left side of the lawfully driven vehicle.

After the collision, the reckless driver fled the scene of the crash.

Both the 19-year-old driver and his 18-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries in the crash.

FHP troopers later located the hit-and-run driver and he was arrested for reckless driving, leaving the scene of a traffic crash with property damage, leaving the scene of a crash with injury, and fleeing and eluding.

An 18-year-old woman was also within the vehicle of the hit-and-run driver during the time of the crash.
